The genesis of the firm was a partnership for the general practice of law in Rome, Georgia established in 1899 by  George Edmondson Maddox and Colonel William S. McHenry.  The firm has been in continuous existence since that time.  Over the years, attorneys affiliated with the firm have served in various capacities in the judicial, legislative and executive branches of both national and state government.  Partners in the firm have also served as members of the Georgia Board of Bar Examiners as well as in numerous other legal and civic positions.  In 1999, the firm added partners Michael D. McRae and Robert T. Monroe to establish its Cedartown office and expand its geographic base.

The firm's mission is to be available for its clients to respond to their complete legal needs. Attorneys in the firm work for corporations, both large and small, as well as individuals in various areas of legal concentration, enabling it to offer a wide range of services to its clients, including litigation in all state and federal courts, as well as in the areas of personal injury, business and commercial, estate, will and trusts, real estate and property, governmental, workers' compensation, employment and family law matters.
